A wet summer 2012

After such a promising start in the spring the summer on the island is very wet. Last night the rain kept me awake and, in the dark, it sounded so loud. No storm, just heavy rain which showed no sign of stopping. The island is lush with green everywhere welcoming the rain and wondering what we are all moaning about. The beach is almost deserted with visitors choosing the indoor activities instead. I quite like it. I like the cleansing feeling you get from rain and I like the 'after the rain smell'. I think I am in the minority though. Facebook is full to bursting with comments about the rain and the rubbish summer. I believe we work with what we get and that is an end to it. As I write this I notice the rain has stopped and the clouds are lifting. If I look very closely I can even see a glimpse of the sun. I think it is the greyness that we all struggle with. The bright light that is our guiding star awakens us and fills us with joy and hope. So I can see the problem. I can also see that the slugs have had a particularly wonderful time eating their way through my beans. I am less happy about that. To me, the island looks beautiful and I zone out all the moaning. What will be will be is a phrase used by my soul sister. That will do nicely for today and every day.
